The U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels Demonstration Team will perform at the 2017 Wings Over Wayne Airshow, officials at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base announced last week.
The Blue Angels are the Navy’s premier aerial team, performing with six F/A-18 Hornets.
Seymour Johnson officials said the Blue Angels haven’t performed as part of the annual two-day air show since 2007.
“We are thankful for this opportunity to host the Blue Angels,” said Col. Mark H. Slocum, 4th Fighter Wing commander. “There are many bases and cities that request a world class team like the Blue Angels or Thunderbirds to perform and never get any team. This speaks to the greatness of this community and base to be able to draw them here. Seymour Johnson is also the only Air Force base named after a Navy pilot, so this will be a great tie to our heritage.”
Earlier this year, the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds highlighted the 2015 Wings Over Wayne Air Show.
The free event also featured many other military and civilian aerial performances.
