Air show grants $90,000 to nonprofits

The US Navys Blue Angels returned to the Oregon International Air Show
in 2015, drawing a big crowd of spectators and helping raise $90,000 for
area nonprofits.

The high-flying U.S. Navy Blue Angels at the Oregon International Air
Show last summer helped give a boost to 43 nonprofit organizations this
fall.
Air show organizers recently gave just over $90,000 in grants to area nonprofits.
Grant
recipients included organizations that benefit youth, including Boys
and Girls clubs, Hillsboro Soccer Club and HomePlate Youth Services,
which provides outreach to homeless youth. The grant will help an
additional 50 homeless youth access education, health care and mental
health services.
Several veterans organizations received grants,
including Returning Veterans Project, National Association for Black
Veterans and PAVE — Paws Assisting Veterans — a group that provides
service dogs to vets suffering from post-traumatic stress and physical
disabilities.
Grants also provide support for Hillsboro’s Tuesday Marketplace, a
downtown summertime evening street fair; Friends of Cornelius Library,
to fund a weekly bilingual story time by a professional bilingual
storyteller; and sheriff reserve programs in Washington and Clackamas
counties.
Since 1988, the air show has given more than $1.4 million to local charities and nonprofit organizations.
