QUONSET, R.I. (WPRI) — The Annual Rhode Island National Guard Open House and Air Show will be taking place this weekend.
Officials are expecting the place to be packed with spectators as the Blue Angels return to Rhode Island and the F-16 Viper Team makes its debut in the Ocean State.
“It flies strong, it flies fast and it makes a lot of noise,” United States Air Force SSG John Baker said.
Baker is a mechanic for the F-35, the two teams are the first ever to take flight in Rhode Island. He said there’s nothing quite like them.
“We’re going to be a bit louder than the other planes in the air, but it should be a good time,” Baker said.
Spectators are excited to watch the show.
“Come on down, you won’t be sorry,” Quonset resident Pete Convery said. “It’s one of the best air shows around.”
Convery was able to get a sneak peak since he has a relative in the National Guard. Baker said he’s excited to take part in the air show again this year and remembers what it’s like being a kid at the air show.
“It’s an absolute honor to be looked up to by younger kids and the younger generation. When I was growing up, I looked up to them and I wanted to do the same and make the Air Force proud,” Baker said.
