FARGO — The Blue Angels and other representatives of America’s seaborne military branch are returning to the area July 23-29 as part of Navy Week, according to the Navy.

Fargo is one of 14 cities chosen this year to host the celebration, which will coincide locally with the Fargo Airsho. The city last hosted Navy Week in 2015.

“Navy Weeks are designed to help Americans understand why having a strong Navy is critical to the American way of life,” Cmdr. Linda Rojas, director of the Navy Office of Community Outreach, said in a news release Monday, Feb. 5. “Because the Navy is concentrated primarily on both coasts, we’re challenged to communicate our mission away from fleet concentration areas. That’s where the Navy Week program comes in.”

The Navy has been organizing Navy Week since 2005 and has held the event in 74 communities where the military branch doesn’t have a significant presence, according to the release.

Besides the Blue Angels squadron, Navy Week in Fargo is expected to include other Navy aircraft, Navy divers, bomb squads, the Navy Band, the Navy Ceremonial Guard, sailors from the U.S.S. Constitution and sailors serving in the area.

Navy representatives are expected to also visit schools, youth organizations, civic groups and local veterans.
