The Blue Angels have canceled their performance at the Vero Beach Air Show, scheduled for June 25 and 26.
Air show officials have been in limbo since the June 2 crash, that killed the squadron’s No. 6 pilot, Capt. Jeff Kuss.
The demonstration team had been grounded in what they call an operational pause since the crash, canceling its shows for the past two weekends in New York and Ohio.
When the team resumed practice Thursday over the skies of their home base in Pensacola, there was speculation that the team would make the show at Vero Beach Regional Airport. But the demonstration team, which is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year, have not resumed their performance schedule.
In a news release emailed Friday night, Navy officials confirmed the cancellation, saying the Tactical Demonstration Team from Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 106 will participate in the scheduled Angels’ slot.
Plans for Blue Angels’ participation in future air shows will be released in the coming weeks.
Air show officials said they show will go on as scheduled and includes about nine aerobatics performances, a jet truck, sky-diving team, and a static display of approximately 30 aircraft.
