CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) – Two Blue Angels pilots landed at Naval Air Station-Kingsville Wednesday to discuss the upcoming Wings Over South Texas air show.

The F-18 Hornets and their Blue Angel pilots will be back in Kingsville for the air show March 24-25.

On Wednesday, the two pilots were in Kingsville to speak with the media about the event and go over plans with base officials.

“We do 120 training flights over the winter before we get certified safe to go out and fly the air show for the public, and the whole air show, as much as you would see and be wowed by, everything you see is predicated on safety,” Lt. Andre Webb said.

This year, U.S. Navy officials said they are expecting more than 125,000 people to show up for the two-day event — an event that has featured the Blue Angels flight demonstration squadron since 1987. They said the jets are still up to the task.

“It’s a phenomenal airplane,” Lt. Dave Steppe said. “It’s fast. It’s maneuverable. It does everything we need it to.”

While officials are still working out details for this year’s show, one thing always seems to be certain — there will be plenty of excitement in the skies over South Texas in late March.
