PENSACOLA, FL (WALA) – The Blue Angels — the U.S. Navy Flight
Demonstration Squadron — was to begin training flights today in
preparation for resuming the team’s Pensacola practice and air show
season schedules.

The move is a return to flight for the Blue
Angels following the June 2 fatal crash during a Blue Angels practice
session in Smyrna, Tenn. That accident claimed the life of Capt. Jeff
Kuss.
The team planned to fly its first training flight in a “Big
V” formation, with five aircraft, over downtown Pensacola and Pensacola
Beach this morning. The Angels were set to take to the skies at 9:30
a.m.

A
news release stated the mission of the Blue Angels: “…to showcase the
pride and professionalism of the United States Navy and Marine Corps by
inspiring a culture of excellence and service to country through flight
demonstrations and community outreach.”
