A bridge spanning Stewarts Creek in Smyrna was renamed in honor of the Blue Angels pilot who died in a 2016 crash.
SMYRNA, TN — A bridge in Smyrna now bears the name of a Blue Angels pilot who died in an accident there in 2016.
Smyrna and state officials unveiled a sign dedicating a bridge spanning Stewarts Creek on State Route 266 to Marine Corps Capt. Jeff Kuss on Saturday as part of the city’s Veterans Day events.
Kuss’s F/A-18 Hornet crashed in a field during a Blue Angels practice before the Great American Air Show in 2016. Smyrna is planning a $1 million memorial to Kuss.
Smyrna officials said hundreds of people signed a replica version of the sign which will be mailed, along with a copy of the state proclamation dedicating the bridge, to Kuss’s widow.
