Covina High School alumnus David Zimmerman will be flying high when he returns home this weekend.
The
aviation structural mechanic will be strapped into the back of the Blue
Angels’ C-130 “Fat Albert” during the Los Angeles County Air Show at
Fox Airfield in Lancaster.
“It’s humbling to be able to represent the Navy and my home area,” said Zimmerman, 29. “I encourage everybody to come out.”
Zimmerman,
a 2004 graduate of Covina High, joined the U.S. Navy 11 years ago and
has been part of the maintenance team for the Blue Angels fleet for a
little over a year. Although he does not fly the planes, the first class
mechanic has flown with the squadron as a safety observer close to 30
times. He said he was excited to fly in an air show so close to home.

His mom, aunts and uncles, and other friends will be at the show.
“It’s hard for everybody to come see me so now I get to come see them,” Zimmerman said.
Air
show gates open at 9 a.m. with performances from approximately noon to
3:30 p.m. each day of the two-day show on Saturday and Sunday.
