SMYRNA, Tenn. (WZTV) — The Town of Smyrna has announced plans to honor fallen Blue Angels pilot Capt. Jeff Kuss with a $1 million memorial.
Smyrna announced plans for the “Capt. Jeff Kuss USMC Memorial” on Thursday. Town leaders said half of of the money has already been raised.
The groundbreaking is set for this fall.
Kuss was killed in June 2016 when the Blue Angels F/A-18 fighter jet he was piloting crashed during a training exercise for the Great Tennessee Air Show.
Kuss served as an opposing solo pilot. It was his second year on the team and his first year as a demonstration pilot. Blue Angels said he embodied and inspired the team with an “incredible spirit of compassion, courage and resiliency.”
Kuss left behind a wife and two young children.
