N. Springs grad coming home for Blue Angels air show

Navy Cmdr. Frank Weisser, a Sandy Springs native and 1996 North Springs graduate, will return home for the Wings Over North Georgia Airshow in Rome Oct. 21 and 22.

Weisser, who has served in the Navy for 17 years, is currently serving with the U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels.

Weisser attended the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, and graduated in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. He was then commissioned as an ensign in the U.S. Navy and joined the Blue Angels in September 2007. He has served as its narrator, key influencer and VIP pilot, opposing solo and lead solo.

Weisser rejoined the Blue Angels in July 2016. He has accumulated more than 4,300 flight hours and 400 carrier-arrested landings. Weisser has received several awards and medals while serving in the Navy.

In other military news, U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Trent S. Thaxton recently graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.

Thaxton is the son of Christel W. Thaxton of East Point and a 2016 Riverwood graduate.
