KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels are returning to Kansas City!
The high-energy naval demonstration team will perform at Charles Wheeler Downtown Airport, July 6-7, 2019, according to Kerry Floyd, one of the organizers of the KC Airshow.
The Blue Angels selected Kansas City, Monday morning, at the International Council of Airshows Convention in Las Vegas, Floyd said.
Kansas City was selected as a destination out of roughly 200 applicants, he said.
Floyd is part of a new airshow management team in place to welcome the F/A-18 Hornet jets to Kansas City for the first time since 2015.
“We expect this to be a very family friendly show,” Floyd said. “We’ve analyzed the past airshows, and built on airshows in the past.”
Floyd said the team is already working on improved transportation options to and from the show.
He also said several nationally-recognized demonstration teams will fly, and people will have several opportunities to see airplanes on the ground.
“It will be a big boom to the Kansas City area over the July 4th weekend,” he said.
