SMYRNA — A team of French aerobatic pilots will join the United States Navy Blue Angels at the 2016 Great Tennessee Air Show in Smyrna, according to a news release.
The Breitling Jet Team, the world’s largest professional civilian aerobatic display team performing in jets, will perform in a rare North American tour stop June 4 and 5 at Smyrna/Rutherford County Airport.
“We are thrilled to welcome the Breitling Jet Team on one of their few North American tour stops in 2016,” said John Black, executive director of Smyrna/Rutherford County Airport Authority.
Based in France, the team is composed of seven pilots flying L-39 C Albatros jets in a sophisticated demonstration of precision and speed, working in total synchronicity to wow audiences with rolls, loops and gravity-defying moves.
“Their decision to come to Smyrna is a testament to our goal of making the Great Tennessee Air Show a world-class event for air show fans throughout the Southeast,” Black said, adding that the Great Tennessee Air Show is proud to be a part of the Breitling Jet Team’s 2016 American tour.
The 2016 Great Tennessee Air Show is partnering with Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee to help solve hunger issues in the community.
Advance tickets to the 2016 Great Tennessee Air Show are available beginning Monday at www.greattennesseeairshow.com.
Advance general admission prices are $27.50 for adults and $15 for children. Advance box seats are $40, with Flight Line Club advance tickets priced at $135 for adults and $75 for children.
Breitling established the jet team more than 13 years ago to celebrate the company’s passion for aviation and share it with fans across the globe.
Because its 2015 North American tour was well received, with aviation enthusiasts from across North America coming to see the team’s performances at nearly 20 air shows in the U.S. and Canada, the team has scheduled 15 air shows in 2016, including The Great Tennessee Air Show.
“It was incredible to tour the United States and Canada for the first time this year, and we are so happy to be returning in 2016,” Jacques Bothelin, Breitling Jet Team leader, said. “It is a pleasure to return to the International Council of Air Shows’ annual convention in Las Vegas to announce the 2016 schedule with so many people who were instrumental in this year’s success.”
The Breitling Jet Team will join the United States Navy Blue Angels demonstration squadron, which will headline the 2016 Great Tennessee Air Show. The weekend event also will include performances by renowned aerobatic acts and feature multiple static displays, concessions and activities for children.
Named one of the “Top 10 Best Air Shows Around the World” by USA TODAY, the Great Tennessee Air Show gives the community an opportunity to experience aviation up close and personal.
