MILWAUKEE —The Board of Directors of the Milwaukee Air & Water Show announced the 2016 show has been canceled, citing scheduling difficulties and a lack of financial support.

Organizers told WISN 12 News they realized about a month ago they scheduled the Navy’s Blue Angels at the same time as the last weekend of Summerfest.

That conflict meant there wouldn’t be enough hotel rooms.

Organizers also said they are short about $150,000 to put on the event.

Paul Upchurch, of Visit Milwaukee, said the economic impact of not having the air show this year may be felt all over the city.

“In addition to all the people having events in their buildings and the parks overlooking the lakefront, so we estimated, the show operators estimated the economic impact at $1.4 million,” Upchurch said.

Upchurch said they will try to bring in other events to make up for not having the air show.

“We’re going to miss it, but I know it will be back even better and stronger,” he said. “(Last year’s show) drew about 400,000 people down to the lakefront over the two days.”

The U.S. Navy Blue Angels are scheduled to headline the 2017 show, which will be held along the lakefront on July 15 and 16.
