The Quad City Air Show is this weekend and on Wednesday, May 6, 2015, KWQC-TV6 Meteorologist Kevin Phelps got to fly with the U.S. Navy Blue Angels precision flight team.
Before suiting up, Kevin had to attend a mini flight school to learn how to prepare for the spins, rolls and speed of the Boeing F/A-18 Hornet. He took off from the Quad City International Airport in Moline.
Kevin says when he was little he thought of being a pilot, but later his attention turned to weather. Of course, the two are related, since aviators have to understand weather for safe flight.
The Blue Angels is the headline act for the Quad City Airshow May 9th and 10th and part of Navy Week in the Quad Cities. During its stops, the flight team invites select members of the media and community to go for a ride.
