The Charleston Air Expo 2020 has been grounded due to the coronavirus, officials with Joint Base Charleston confirmed on Monday.
The decision means no visit from the iconic Blue Angels, which had been scheduled as the featured attraction at this year’s expo.
“In accordance with CDC and Air Force guidance, Joint Base Charleston has decided to cancel the Charleston Air Expo due to concerns surrounding COVID-19,” base staff announced on the JBC Facebook page. “While we regret this missed opportunity to showcase our mission and capabilities to the Lowcountry, this decision was made with the safety of our community in mind and is in alignment with our mission to preserve the health and wellness of our Joint Base Charleston team.”
The event will not be rescheduled, according to Joint Base Charleston officials.
“The demands of planning an event of this magnitude and the limited availability of performers makes rescheduling nearly impossible, and therefore we decided that cancellation was the best decision moving forward,” a JBC spokesperson said.
Refunds will be issued for anyone who purchased upgraded seating packages. For questions on refunds, contact the ticketing vendor by phone at 843-823-6240, or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
