Meet ‘The Blue Angels’

Want to “Meet the Blues?” On Friday, April 8th, 2016 Texas A&M University-Kingsville students and the Kingsville community can during the Air Show Pep Rally at 9 a.m. at Javelina Stadium.

Later that day, the Blue Angels, with a special performance by the U.S Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon, will perform at J.K. Northway Coliseum as part of the 70th anniversary celebration for Kingsville Naval Air Station. Doors open 5:30 p.m. and the event starts at 6:30 p.m.

Autographs and photos with the Blue Angels team members, a free concert by Journey tribute band “San Antonio Light,” all Vietnam Veterans to be honored, and free admission and free parking will be available.

The Blue Angels have a 16 officers who voluntarily serve. Each year the team selects three tactical jet pilots, two support officers, and one Marine Corps C-130 pilot to relieve departing members.

The Chief of Naval Air Training selects the “Boss” and the “XO.” Boss, the Blue Angels Commanding Officer and flies the Number 1 jet, must have at least 3,000 tactical jet flight-hours and have commanded a tactical jet squadron. The XO, the Blue Angels Executive Officer, is a Naval Flight Officer and must have at least 1,250 tactical jet flight-hours.

The mission of the Blue Angels is to showcase the professionalism and pride of the United States Navy and Marine Corps by inspiring a culture of excellence and service to country through flight demonstrations and community outreach.
