The U.S. Navy’s precision flying team returned home to NAS Pensacola on Monday and the team attracted a crowd. The Blues buzzed over downtown Pensacola and Pensacola Beach. People lined the streets and beach to record the flight with their phones.

The team is celebrating its 70th season. The Blue Angels first flew as a team on May 10, 1946. Pilots first flew Hellcats and then Bearcats. The Blue Angels now fly six F/A-18 Hornets. The team spent the last few weeks in California at Naval Air Facility (NAF) El Centro for winter training. The squadron performed two airshows before heading back to the Gulf Coast.

On Monday, the City of Pensacola held a special proclamation ceremony for the Blue Angels at the National Naval Aviation Museum. WKRG’s Debbie Williams is covering the Blues today and will have more on WKRG News 5 at 5:00 p.m.
