Pensacola Beach, Fla. (WEAR-TV) — People from far and near gather at Pensacola Beach every year to watch the hometown team, The Blue Angels, perform their annual beach show.
“It never gets old its neat, it brings an influx of people that can’t wait to experience what we get to do every year,” said Kevin Perkins, general manager at Sidelines Sports Bar and Restaurant in Pensacola Beach,
Perkins has been working the annual airshow for over 20 years, he said this is the busiest time of the year.
“It’s great for us and to my knowledge it’s been great for everybody on the island and it is every year but this year has been really good comparatively speaking and hopefully it will continue for the next 5 days,” Perkins said.
People that come are spending on lodging, food and activities.
Last year $25 million dollars were spent by people coming to see the show according to Visit Pensacola.
“Over the years we’ve seen more and more people wanting to catch the blues because it is such a national symbol for us its the hometown crowd and its something we get to celebrate,” said Steve Hayes, Director at Vist Pensacola.
Even with potential rain in the forecast local businesses are staying optimism and expect the rest of the week to be busy.
“By all indications if you are already talking about hotels and other lodging that our full the buzz is certainly out there about about the blues performing so you would expect a full beach crowd,” Hayes said.
Several hotels on Pensacola Beach tell Hayes they are completely booked.
“The hotels should be full so we’ll be busy regardless but obviously everyone hopes for everything to go well,” Perkins said.
