U.S. Navy soliciting an aircraft to replace Fat Albert

Fat Albert hasn’t flown in a while due to technical issues. Now, the U.S. Navy is working to get a replacement aircraft.

Navy officials are looking to award a contract to the United Kingdom Ministry of Defence (MOD) for a C-130J.

In the request, the contracting officer states they need it quickly in order to avoid a gap in logistical support of the Blue Angels flight demonstration squadron. It also states:

The aircraft being procured from the UK MOD has the requisite amount of life and technical capability to support the Blue Angels mission. Procurement of a comparable replacement C-130J from any source other than the UK MOD would create an unacceptable increase in program cost and delay in fielding this critical capability.

Interested parties have until 1 p.m. CST Friday, March 30th to respond to this request.
